Great British Bake Off – 5 highlights from episode one

My ultimate favourite TV show is finally back on my screen and I couldn’t be happier, I’m all set for 10 weeks of pure unadulterated baking escapism that’ll take us right through to the edge of the Winter.

If you missed last night’s episode, or you watched it but miss it already, here are my top 5 highlights:

  1. The first Kawaii bake we’ve ever seen on the show – thanks for that Jordan.

  2. Norman’s amazing baking tray gadget that I hope to see on Dragon’s Den/in Lakeland in the very near future.

  3. Luis using honey from his own bees in his first bake.

  4. Sue’s puns – “You’ve got two hours to pop Mary’s cherry.. in the oven and bring it out again” was a big move.

  5. Finally, of course, poor Iain and his failed ‘scoring the swiss roll to prevent cracks’ technique. We all knew from the moment Mary tutted that it would never work.

My favourite to win right now has got to be Martha, just 17 years old and a baking powerhouse, she must have some serious tricks up her sleeve. Who’s your money on? Let me know in the comments!

I can’t wait for the next episode, which is why I’m delighted that Jo Brand’s Bake Off: An Extra Slice will be airing on Friday @ 9pm on BBC2!

  1. I LOVE the builder, can’t remember his name. Think he’s a bit of a dark horse. OBVIOUSLY love Norman! Martha is fab and Nancy, she’s superb! I do love Iain as well for his hipster beard. I couldn’t even tweet last night when it was on – focussing to hard! x

    • I also love the builder – so cute when he turned up at the bench with a pen behind his ear! Nancy is a total pro and a definite contender to go right to the end. It’s all so exciting! I’m so happy that An Extra Slice exists, double the GBBO tv coverage is as good as life gets! x
