This weekend my boyfriend and I set off to Bath for a glorious weekend break. The city was as wonderful as everybody said it would be; stunning architecture, fabulous shops and lots of lovely food.
We explored The Roman Baths, shopped ’til we dropped and enjoyed a drink or two at some lovely pubs. I can safely say I’ve got the Bath bug – if there is such a thing – and I can’t wait to go back, but next time for longer than just a couple of days!
The most sensible thing to do in a new place is check out TripAdvisor for the best pub, and The Hop Pole came top of the list. It’s more than worthy of its high ranking! Friendly and welcoming staff, a cosy beer garden and top notch food – what more could we have asked for?
I had Sweet Potato Gnocchi, Winter Greens, Rosemary and Chestnut Cream and Sautéed Mushrooms – it was out of this world. For dessert I demolished a sticky toffee pudding which was, again, out of this world. There are prints by Trevor Haddrell on the walls which I thought were particularly beautiful, pictured below is ‘Five Florence Fennell‘.
On Sunday morning we huddled under the shelter of Boston Tea Party in the rain and ate a delicious West Country Breakfast. Top marks for the scrambled egg.
