Review | Abel & Cole NEW Super Salad Box

Abel & Cole are a brand that I can totally get behind. Their boxes promote cooking with organic, local, seasonal produce without having to leave your house to find it. What’s not to love? So when I was invited to try their new super salad box, I literally jumped at the chance.

I guess the first thing to get out of the way here is cost, because for a lot of people that’s what everything boils down to. The super salad box is £19.50, what you’re getting for that price is the fresh and organic ingredients for three delicious salads.

Personally, it’s not something I could afford to get on the regular. But if you’ve got the income, I really think you should look at getting a few of these boxes this season – especially considering its the same price as a cheeky Chinese takeaway. Here’s why..

Abel and Cole Super Salad Box Review

The delivery

Abel & Cole do a tonne of deliveries around Brighton so I always see their vans dotted about the place, and the drivers are always lovely. I’ve ordered with Abel & Cole once before and had the exact same experience then. Super nice people.

In terms of packaging, Abel & Cole just don’t have the same wastage issues that other delivery services do, because they recycle everything. You can give them back the box, the insulation gubbins, all that jazz, and they will re-use it. This is a big thumbs up for me.

The produce

I need a moment to talk about tomatoes here. I’m sure you’re all very familiar with the crappiness of supermarket tomatoes. It really breaks my heart. They’re cheap but they’re so, so far from cheerful, they just don’t taste of anything.

Enter these babies, they were so good. Juicy, fresh and full of flavour. This box was worth getting for the tomatoes alone. Same goes for the cucumber and all the other veggies, organic and UK grown by the right farmers makes such a huge bloody difference to the taste of food.

The recipes

We have eaten so well the past couple of days thanks to the super salad box. Rachel De Thample (@dethample on Twitter), Head of Food for Abel & Cole, is just a total goddess.

I think what I loved most about this experience was bringing together ingredients that I might not have automatically reached for myself. Particularly in the last salad pictured, as I’m not usually one for tarragon and rarely use alfafa sprouts (though I know I should), but they came together so gorgeously in the carrot salad!

Here’s an uninterrupted look at the recipes from the box I received:

    • Hey Petra, thanks for stopping by!
Yes, Abel & Cole deliver all over the place as far as I’m aware and I confidently recommend their veg boxes!

  2. These look delicious, Cate! Love supporting small businesses rather than big super markets. I’ve spotted them a few times at food festivals, and they always seem like lovely people. Loriley x

    • Oh they’re so great Loriley, fab customer service. Wish I could order from them more often, it’s where I’d get all my produce if I could afford it x
