Before we begin today, can I just ask if I’m the only one feeling a little bit groggy because she stayed up far too late trying to catch a glimpse of meteors? Li’l pain in the old neck from craning it to look at the sky too? Just me? Ok, on with this then..
As much as I’d love to invite you all round for tea, it wouldn’t be logistically practical. There’s really not enough space for hundreds of hungry people, my table only sits four and the sofa’s worn out enough as it is. Besides, some of you might be axe-wielding murderers or polaroid-taking weirdos.
It’s safer then to hold an afternoon tea in honour of Afternoon Tea Week without you, but take enough pictures and tell you all about it so as to make you feel as if you were here. I hope that’s substitute enough.
I wanted to go all out on this, seeing as you were all going to be here in spirit, so I decided to give it a theme. What I made for this afternoon was inspired by my small but mighty and really rather bountiful garden.
I made cucumber sandwiches using garden lettuce, basil and cucumber – all from just past the back door. I made blueberry muffins with the blueberries hanging low from the bush at the bottom of the garden. I’m feeling very farm to table, can you tell?
A friend joined me and brought scones to the table. We had those with mascarpone and the lemon curd that The English Provender. Co kindly sent me – freakin’ killer combo, sorry for bastardising the traditional cream tea though..
We went for the Bluebird Tea Co‘s ‘Great British Cuppa’ (kindly sent by the BTC gang along with the less traditional flavours seen above) and it was delicious but I would also recommend Whittard’s Afternoon Tea which currently happens to be 25% off. They’re both excellent blends.
Anyway, enough of this wordy nonsense. You came here for pictures of cake.
This looks amazing. So yummy and perfect vintage plates are a bonus.
That’s the charity shop for you, great for this stuff! Thanks for reading š
I love the table cloth, very cutesy. I want to throw an afternoon tea now.

Aww thank you – so glad! My hope was to inspire people to eat lots of sugar and drink lots of tea š x
PS – it’s not a tablecloth, it’s an old bed sheet, how Pinterest am I š X
I bet those scones tasted amazing with the lemon curd. Loving the cornflower blue china and the tablecloth too.:)
Charity shop finds! X
Stupid question, but did you bake those cupcakes in those flower pots?! Such a cool idea.

Yeah I did š they’re silicone cases from Sainsburys a while back. Usually prefer not to bake with silicone cause it freaks me out and smells weird in the oven but for my garden theme it was a must! Thanks Saskia x
