I’m fully suffering. I have something that goes beyond the lurgy, yesterday I was in bed sweating and tossing and turning and having those horrible delusions some of us get when we have a fever. It’s not been a friendly 48 hours. Not a friendly 48 hours at all. I think I’m beginning to see the light at the end of the germy tunnel though, I’m well enough to sit up and type and I managed to get a homemade gravy on the go – you can always tell I’m almost on the mend when I get back into the kitchen.
A very lovely friend sent me vegan pizza and paracetamol through Deliveroo, and I made myself a Virgin Mary to try and get a vitamin/spicy stuff boost. I wholeheartedly recommend you try the latter next time you’re sick, it actually worked a treat for me. I’m on the mend, it’s all mendy around here, let’s look at what went down in my corner of the world last week.
- On repeat: a lot. Have we talked about Lemonade? Sorry has come to me at the exact moment in my life that I needed it, thank you Beyonce. Taking it back, What I Am has had plenty of airtime in my bedroom this week because my life has basically been a 90s music video. Finally, I cannot get enough of this Young Fathers track. Like can. not. get. enough.
- Asparagus season is here yo. Here are some mistakes to avoid.
- You know what I don’t eat enough of? Samphire.
- A selfie toaster exists.
- The meat industry is a hard enough pill to swallow already, but I’d not given the humans on the front line a thought before. Workers are regularly forced to wear diapers on the line because they are not permitted to take regular bathroom breaks.
Hey craft beer. I’m usually a cheap and cheerful Stella girl, but through CITK I’ve had the pleasure of refining my palette ever so slightly every now and then. Bedlam bring it. My favourite is the Pilsner, a classic mild lager. And, I hear the Porter is a winner in steak pies. Remind me to tell my Grandad.
I made cheesecake brownies for the boys at my office and they went down so well. I think I got two separate marriage proposals. While I’d call this recipe a success, I think if I were to make it again I’d add cocoa powder or more chocolate to the brownie batter as it’s not quite death-by-chocolate-y enough for me.
Food Stories is a new seasonal food magazine that both my Mother and I have fallen in love with. I had to stop her from pilfering it the last time she came to visit. It’s aimed at celebrating rare food brands and features loads of spring and summer gorgeousness. You can find it in WH Smith, Selfridges, Harrods and Whole Foods. Highly recommended for your next train journey/Sunday afternoon/bubble bath.
Special edition crisps are really what dreams are made of. These coronation chicken flavoured ones brought out just in time for her madge’s birthday are bang on the money in terms of taste, and the packaging is adorbs. I felt very British as I ate the entire bag to myself in one sitting.
I’m not convinced that that’s everything I had to tell you this week, but this post is late enough as it is and I’m fading fast. I hope your Monday was OK and wish you a better than average next four days. You got this.
