Why I’m Ditching The Camera Next Month

If you enjoy both procrastination and food as much as I do, then you’re probably an avid reader of everything Bon Appetit publishes already. If that’s the case, then you’ll already know that every single image in their March issue was taken with an iPhone. I don’t know what it is that thrilled me so much about this bold move by Bon Appetit. Perhaps it’s the fact that it embraces modern food culture so keenly (in 2016, if you didn’t use your iPhone to Instagram your weekend breakfast, it didn’t happen) or perhaps it’s just because it’s a decision that really must have taken some balls. Whatever it is, it clearly had a profound effect on me… Inspired by them, I’m going to be doing the exact same thing on Cate in the Kitchen. From the 1st to the 31st of March 2016, every single image you see on this blog will be shot with my iPhone 5S. Squash Purée

All of the best people are doing it. When I saw this Bon Appetit article about making squash purée, so many lightbulbs appeared on top of my head for what I could get done with it that I decided to make it the very next morning. Which I did. That morning was this morning. Yes, that’s right, this one, today, I’m not even blogging in advance, this is all happening right now. Are you excited? I am. This is real easy to do. Just prep your squash by peeling it, deseeding it and chopping it into chunks. Then boil, steam or roast it until it’s tender, then blitz it with a little oil (I used Mokhado macadamia nut oil ’cause I’m feeling fancy as shit today). I’ve got a banana bread recipe coming your way that uses this stuff that will make you very, very happy. And I can’t wait to do more with it.
