Carrot and Orange Cleanse Cocktail

It’s a beautiful day here in Brighton, I’d forgotten what colour the sky was! Having had an alcohol free evening last night I was thankfully lacking a hangover this morning, although it being a bank holiday weekend I know some of you may not be so lucky. And so, whether you’re in desperate need of some hair of the dog or you’ve waited til Saturday to indulge in some alcohol, this is the perfect cocktail for you. I bought some carrot juice at the supermarket last week, I tried it and I have to be honest, I did not love it. But there’s no bigger crime than waste and so I had to think of how to finish it up, which thankfully led me to the discovery that it tastes amazing with a few additions.. namely gin. In addition to its taste when prepared correctly, the amount of vitamin A in carrot juice is enough to cure your skin of 50 nights of binge drinking (340% of your recommended daily dose!) check out this pageĀ for …

Cheer Up Chilli Carrot Fritters

I’ve had a pretty abysmal day, I forgot my on-the-go coffee this morning among various other basic essentials for all human beings that need to be out of the door long before Jeremy Kyle starts – I even left my debit card on the kitchen table. So, for the second night in a row I was faced with making a meal from stuff that was knocking about in the back of the cupboard and the bottom of the fridge door. I first tried fritters as a child in a little vegetarian restaurant on the outskirts of Dartmoor, and I’ve been experimenting with them ever since, but you really can’t beat the simple carrot variety. These saucy little minxes cheered my day up no end, do not be deterred by their fried-ness, they’re almost healthy! I swapped out my standard cooking oil for hemp oil, which is high in those essential omegas …

Lets talk about sides (baby)

It’s nearing BBQ Season for the braver souls here in the UK, and I’m not about to tell you that chicken wings and burgers are going to boost your metabolism. So to join in the BBQ vibe yet remain in the constraints of this week’s theme, I thought I’d share an exceedingly healthy side dish that you can add to your delicious rack of ribs and know that you’re consuming something of use to your body. Homemade coleslaw This recipe was inspired by the most amazing take away joint ever to exist, Pizzaface. If you’re lucky enough to be a citizen of Brighton, too, you have to try this place. In a nutshell, it’s beyond restaurant quality pizza delivered right to your house. Anyway, they do this great seasonal coleslaw that’s herby and crunchy and delicious so I’ve tried to recreate it, pretty successfully I might add. Coleslaw is notoriously fattening because it contains a few artery clogging ingredients – namely full fat cream, so this recipe calls for 0% yoghurt (the brand I use …
