Veganuary Update on Cate in the Kitchen

Veganuary | 3 Weeks In

We’re more than half way through already! This week I learned that there is such a thing as too much hummus, after eating an entire tub a day for three days straight I began to feel less than cute, so I’m cooling it on the chickpea front over the next little while. Lesson learned: you can have too much of a good thing. I did have to cheat again (for the second week running) for a client recipe. Even though I told myself at the beginning of the month that this was going to happen, it feels like a weird self-betrayal. I have now officially lost all of the weight that I put on over Christmas, I can only presume that it’s down to all the plants I’ve been eating and all the cheese I haven’t been eating. Moral of that story: Veganuary is a very effective and basically painless post-Christmas cleanse. Cravings Again with the butter. I’ve got a real hankering for butter. Other than that though I’m not craving very much at all. …

Step into Christmas with me | Festive menus in Brighton

We are now practically hours away from actual real-life Christmas day, it feels as though it’s come along so quickly! Over the past few days I’ve tried out a couple of the Christmas menus at Brighton restaurants so I thought it only right to tell you all what I thought. I’ll keep this post relatively brief because I wasn’t really blown away by either one – I suppose nothing comes close to Mum’s roasties! Strada 3 courses for ยฃ19.95 Mozzarella Tricolore Turkey Raspberry Pannacotta This was the office Christmas meal and we’d pre-booked and pre-ordered, so having the starter arrive after 40 minutes of being seated was a bit of a setback. The food was nice but I’m not sure I’d be happy to recommend it to anybody, it all felt quite basic and not really worth the enormous wait between each course. I should note that the staff were polite about the slow service and gave us a bottle of wine on the house. Coast 2 Coast 3 courses for ยฃ24.95 – we just …

Step into Christmas with me | Decorating the tree

Welcome to my new brand series for Christmas! Over the next couple of weeks while I’m off work to go about spreading Christmas cheer, I’ll be posting as frequently as I can to share my festive fun with all of you! I’m not usually this far behind when it comes to Christmas, so it’s nothing short of baffling that I’ve only just gotten around to decorating the tree – but it’s finally up. We thought about a real tree this year, we really did; but the convenience of the pre-lit beauty (no hoovering needles, no lugging a great big monster back from B&Q and no ยฃ40 price tag) that was waiting for us up in the loft outweighed the lure of that lovely pine smell. We rocked around the Christmas tree to my special Spotify playlist which you can find here.. Everyone has their favourites when it comes to decorations, and they can often be grouped into the following categories: vintage family heirlooms clay creations covered in glitter made with love at nursery schools years …
