Spicy Chai Cookies

There’s something about November specifically that makes me want to reach for my collection of cookie cutters. I pour them out onto the table, take stock of what I have in the way of Christmas shapes and remind myself I should probably refrain from buying more no matter how tempted I might be by HomeSense and their wily festive displays. I wonder why I’ve not really baked cookies since this time last year when I’ve all these lovely cutters that I’ve hardly used. I vow to bake cookies all year round from this month onwards and make use of this dinosaur and that polar bear and those moons and stars. I never do, obviously, what with being a bit useless and all. I’m just not much of a baker, as much as I’d love to be. While I enjoy the process (when not under the mild stress of the bake off bake along, that is), its scientific nature doesn’t gel with my spontaneous and eternally distracted personality. You really have to pay attention when you’re …

We Need to Talk About Pumpkin Spice

Before we begin, I should tell you something. I’ve never had a pumpkin spice latte. Considering the fact that it was first introduced in 2003, this is pretty neglectful of me. I got to thinking about why I’d never gotten round to it.. There’s the whole Starbucks taxes thing, of course. Or perhaps it’s because I live in perpetual fear of being thought of as basic. Oh, or it could be that one latte contains 49g (a lot) of sugar. So when Bluebird Tea Co sent me their autumn collection, I did an actual squeal at the packet marked Spiced Pumpkin Pie. A pumpkin spice drink made by a small company, local to me, using quality ingredients, who know their shit? Doesn’t get much better than that. It was the first tea I brewed from the lot, and it lived up to my (very) high hopes and expectations. Guys, I love this tea so much I could do cartwheels. It’s got all those wicked autumnal flavours without the use of a sugar syrup, so it’s already streets ahead …

Rebel Kitchen Smoothies

You must know by now, but I’ll reiterate just in case. I’m Rebel Kitchen’s blogger of the month, so throughout August I’ve been writing about them and their awesome mylks (you can find those posts here and here). I’m also running a competition to win the whole range on Twitter here! Smoothies are a fast foodie’s best friend, all the recipes below will take you way under five minutes (unless you count clean-up time, those blender blades are a real pain) and they’re exceedingly delicious to boot. I’ve avoided the new-fangled health fanatic ingredients for the following reasons: 1) They can be very difficult to source 2) I’m too lazy to source them. So you won’t need to google the location of your closest Whole Foods to enjoy these. Instructions are pretty basic, just take the ingredients listed, throw them into your blender and whizz until smooth. Chai Mylk Breakfast Smoothie 150ml Rebel Kitchen Chai Mylk // 2 chopped bananas // 2 teaspoons mixed spice // 1 handful porridge oats // 1 handful pumpkin seeds …
