Marmalade Cookies with Whisky Icing

Whisky icing. That’s why you clicked, isn’t it? It’s the whole reason I made these biscuits in the first place (fair warning: I’ll alternate between using the words biscuits and cookies because I’m the opposite of a purist, I’m a big sloppy not purist). I recently saw a recipe for cinnamon buns (or something similar) with a whisky glaze (or something similar) and it’s been vaguely playing on my mind ever since. I thought it was on Bon Appetit, but I’ve searched there and found no joy. So I decided to see if simply adding whisky to icing sugar yielded grown-up deliciousness. Unsurprisingly, it absolutely did. It does for cookies what brandy does for mince pies, a gorgeous festive boozy hit. It’s the best. You’re going to love it. I suppose at this point you’re dying to know where I found these cutters. I bought them a shameful number of weeks ago. It was early September I believe, and in my defence, they were being sold. I’m a helpless consumer, what was I to do? …

Double Chocolate, Marzipan and Almond Cookies

Ok, guys, I just feel I should warn you that these are like crack. It’s like the almondy white chocolatey vibe comes together with buttery chewy sweetness to create some kind of chemical composition that is dangerously addictive to humans. What I’m trying to say here is don’t make a batch and expect to eek it out. These cookies came about through my desire to be one of those people who uses up the odds and ends that they have in the cupboards. I need to be way thriftier with my cooking in general, and this is the way to go about it. I had marzipan knocking about after making those dirty cheating almond croissants earlier in the week and thought it’d be cool in a cookie – it totally is. There’s a lot of painting and decorating going on in my house at the moment and these have seen everybody through the tea breaks very nicely. They’re not bulky cakey cookies (Nigella Lawson’s double chocolate ones come to mind) but thinner, chewier ones that …

Spiced Chai Tea Cookies

Baking is both fun and cute in equal parts, as are small children. I’ve never posted a recipe before that is specifically child-friendly so here goes this one. Icing baked goodies is almost always a kid’s first introduction to the kitchen, because it’s messy enough to be fun and there is no fire involved. When I was little, my favourite thing to do was “design stuff” – this in child language of course doesn’t mean planning architectural blueprints, it means having a notebook full of tattoo drawings in gel pen, stuff like that. So I thought it’d be nice to include a template you can print out if you have little ones that want to design their cookie before they ice it.. I’ve made it really boring so that it doesn’t cost you loads of ink to print out, the idea is to save you drawing around a glass to get a real circle. Just click on the image and it’ll take you to a new web page so you can print it off. Makes …
