Bake Off Bake Along | It’s That Thyme Again

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting to write this post. After Love Productions ditched the BBC and Mel, Sue and Bezza jumped ship from Love Productions, I thought that’d be it for me in terms of at-home interaction. I figured I’d still watch it from time to time, occasionally tweet along with the show, but I’d said my goodbyes to active participation. Alas, here we are. Turns out I can’t resist. On Wednesday (we’re always gonna be a day behind because we don’t have a TV license) I settled in to watch the first episode of the brand spanking new series in its new home expecting to freak out. What actually happened? A pretty standard episode of GBBO as we know and love it, I’d say. Yes, Noel seemed super nervous throughout and he and Sandi might take a little more time to gel – bear in mind that Mel and Sue had been a comedy duo for years before they joined Bake Off – but I loved having him back on my telly, and …

One Last Fail, for Old Times Sake | #bakeoffbakealong

I, like most of you, am officially mourning the Great British Bake Off. I’m really, truly, properly upset about the fact that Wednesday nights will no longer bring the comforting escapism of competetive baking into my living room. I just checked the TV Guide to see what’s on instead. DIY SOS followed by The Apprentice, lord have mercy on us all, I mean that’s just cruel, isn’t it? Before we talk about the good, there’s something I need to talk about that I’m actually still really pissed about, even though a week has passed since it happened. I wasn’t sure whether or not I was going to address it here, because I usually prefer my blog to be a centre of straight up positivity, but I don’t want to let this go unmentioned. The morning after Nadiya’s win was announced, the right wing media and their readers pretty much wrote it off. They took her amazing achievement, and they urinated all over it. They overlooked the genuinely heartwarming build in her confidence throughout the series and the way …

I Can’t Get It Up | #bakeoffbakealong

It’s the baking fails that make for the best titles, isn’t it? We can talk ’til the cows come home about how I’ve let the side down this week in just a second, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves, we need to talk about what happened last Wednesday first. Did anyone else feel like Mel and Sue didn’t 100% milk the innuendo opportunities while the bakers were making cream horns? Cream horns, come on, there was so much to be said. And when Paul’s banana wasn’t strong enough? I was almost on the floor, really. I thought it was Flora’s turn to get outta there this week, I even called it at the beginning of the episode (and I’m usually right). I reckon she’s still in just by the skin of her teeth, can anyone remember whether she’s gotten further than Martha did last season? Paul had a bit of a shocker too though, so it was probably best he got off home, poor boy. I’ll miss him. I’ll always remember your lion, Paul. So, I …
