Hey, Check This Out #3

Happy happy happy Sunday. I hope you’ve woken up blissfully late and eaten far too much of something with syrup. Have you survived the coldest weekend of the year so far? Did it snow where you are? I don’t have a recipe for you today, it’s Sunday, I know you don’t want to get out of bed. Instead, here are some of the things that have been majorly on my radar this week.. Sriracha I am beyond late to jump on the sriracha train. I should really start paying more attention to food trends, shouldn’t I? The only reason I picked this up is because there was a big sign next to it in Sainsbury’s saying “NEW” and I’m a millenial, therefore incredibly susceptible to the wily ways of supermarkets. Anyway, sriracha and I have become fast friends. I can’t get enough of the stuff with my eggs, and I recently discovered that it lends itself well to maple syrup. I’m sure you can expect to see a recipe featuring this bad boy soon. What do …

The Best Hot Chocolate You’ll See Today (Probably)

Welcome, dear readers, to my new second favourite week of the year (my first favourite is Christmas week, obviously). 12-18th October is Chocolate Week. Didn’t know that? I’ve now justified total gluttony from right this second until Sunday, you are so welcome. That’s not the only thing I’m here to blow your mind with today either, I’m also bringing the news about the limited edition Lindt truffles that are here for this season – chocolate orange. I’m so into this, are you? Even better news. Melt these babies with some hot milk and you’ve got yourself a luxurious, naughty, seasonal as a pumpkin, hot chocolate. Orange Hot Chocolate 1 mug milk (I use almond because I’m that person) 2-3 chocolate orange truffles marshmallows + cream if you’re feeling frisky We don’t need numbers for this game, do we? Heat the milk in a saucepan until it’s steaming and starting to bubble. Cut the truffles in half and put them in the bottom of your favourite mug. Pour the milk over and stir like you’ve never …

Ginger + (very) Dark Chocolate Coconut Sugar Cookies

For me, there’s something really bloody sophisticated about a bake that’s not quite as sweet as one might ordinarily expect. A lack of intense sweetness teamed up with impressively dark chocolate (I used Lindt 90% cocoa solids) and a subtle hit of ginger makes this recipe my most sophisticated yet. This is dinner party/posh coffee morning stuff, you guys.  Sophistication isn’t the only reason this recipe is somewhat out of character for me, this is also the first time I’ve ever used coconut sugar. Before I begin telling you how I found it, I want to make it clear that I’m not pitching this to you as a healthy thing. Sugar is sugar is sugar, these biscuits are a treat, not a healthy snack, even though they’re free from “refined sugar” and dairy. This was about fun/experimentation, not hype-healthifying! The texture of coconut sugar (or perhaps just the brand I used) is almost halfway between demerara and soft dark brown, as is its appearance. I’d love to tell you what it tastes like straight but …
