Marzipan Pancakes with Blueberry Maple Syrup and Toasted Coconut

Marzipancakes with Blueberry Maple Syrup and Toasted Coconut

This post is in collabz with Seasonal Berries Happy my birthday month to you! We pushed through January together like absolute soldiers, and if you’re reading this then you too have made it through to the other side. The happier side, the side that’s just a little closer to spring and sunshine and, most notably in my world, the side on which I turn 21.. On February 13th, I will reach an age that makes it impossible for me to argue that people who refer to me as an adult are wrong. At 18 the world is all like ‘whatever, you can drink, call me when you’ve spent three hours on hold to HMRC and we’ll talk’. The years after that all blur together in a late teen but not-quite-proper-actual-grownup haze. But I think now, at this point, I’ve just got to accept it. This is adulthood. I’ve arrived, and I can’t leave. We can talk more about the sense of impending doom that I already feel about the passing of time a little closer to …

Chilli Parsnip Breakfast Fries with Maple Syrup

Chilli Parsnip Breakfast Fries with Maple Syrup

I’ve decided that this is another Christmas brunch recipe. I feel as though it would be appropriate at just about any time of year, but parsnips are in season right now and maple syrup on savoury breakfast food is socially acceptable during the festive period, so this fits comfortably into the Christmas category. If you’re not a fan of spice, you needn’t add any. The parsnips (particularly organic ones) are bursting with lovely flavour as it is, so you won’t find them bland. I’m just a particularly big fan of chilli and maple syrup on the same plate. These would be lovely as part of a great big monstrous breakfast (as an alternative to hash browns or potato waffles or whatever bulky breakfast element you might usually serve when you go all out), but I love them with a fried egg on top. If you’re worried about how healthy these are or are not, might I remind you that it’s almost Christmas? The recipe below serves 1, because I tend to be the only person …

Homemade, Edible Christmas Gifts | Maple & Vanilla Peanut Butter

I have a few thoughts and opinions on festive consumerism this year. I’m mulling them and turning them and twisting them over in my brain, and I’m not sure that I’ve quite settled on how to correctly articulate what it is that really bothers me about it – or why it’s suddenly surfaced this year. I also don’t want to be one of those Internet charmers that preach at people just because they’ve recently had some kind of crisis of conscience, because they always come across as dicks, whether they are or not. All you need to know is that I’ve been inspired to try and throw as many ideas out there as possible for homemade Christmas gifts that won’t cost a bomb this year, and this is the first of them. Peanut butter has had a serious moment in 2015. Maybe it was in 2014 too and I just haven’t noticed how much time has gone by, but I feel like a million different flavours of peanut butter have been released this year. And I think …
