Copycat Recipe: Grubbs Malaysian Burger

Copycat Recipe: Grubbs Malaysian Burger

Before you read on: I have not attempted to copycat the actual veggie patty here, because that is a long haul recipe development job (one that I’m always slogging away at, don’t you worry) and this was a quick craving fix. When I can make veggie burgers like Grubbs, you’ll be the first to know. If you’re not familiar with Grubbs, chances are you’re not from around here. To clarify for out of towners, it’s a burger joint. Not outstanding, not terrible (although I know Rosie would disagree with me there), sitting comfortably somewhere between the McDonalds and the GBKs of this world in both quality and price. There are at least three – if not four – branches within walking distance of me at all times, and Grubbs and I have always had something of a special relationship. However, it’s been taken up a notch since I started working just 3 minutes away from the London Road branch. I have absolutely no chill when it comes to Grubbs. I mean, I literally have the t-shirt. …

The 3 Ingredient Vegan Milkshake I’m Obsessed With Lately

The word milkshake has meant a few different things to me over the years. As a young child, it was frothy strawberry Nesquik whizzed up in the weird milkshake maker thingie my Nan had in her kitchen one summer. As a teenager, it meant the chocolate milkshakes from McDonald’s (sometimes fries were dipped in there, sometimes not, judge me if you need to) or the million calorie Shakeaways I’d get with my Dad when he came to visit – I believe my combo of choice was creme egg and chocolate hob nob. Just typing that made me salivate, somebody remind me to get a Shakeaway next time I’m in town please? Thanks. Now that I am a terrible, boring grown up, milkshakes mean something along the lines of what we’re talking about today. A plant based milk blitzed with some fruit or something equally inoffensive. They’re still delicious, they’re just less likely to give me a heart attack and/or sugar come down. Plus, I can totally have these every day because I’m pretty sure they’re …

Homemade, Edible Christmas Gifts | Maple & Vanilla Peanut Butter

I have a few thoughts and opinions on festive consumerism this year. I’m mulling them and turning them and twisting them over in my brain, and I’m not sure that I’ve quite settled on how to correctly articulate what it is that really bothers me about it – or why it’s suddenly surfaced this year. I also don’t want to be one of those Internet charmers that preach at people just because they’ve recently had some kind of crisis of conscience, because they always come across as dicks, whether they are or not. All you need to know is that I’ve been inspired to try and throw as many ideas out there as possible for homemade Christmas gifts that won’t cost a bomb this year, and this is the first of them. Peanut butter has had a serious moment in 2015. Maybe it was in 2014 too and I just haven’t noticed how much time has gone by, but I feel like a million different flavours of peanut butter have been released this year. And I think …
