PSA: There’s A Franco Manca at The Marina

There’s been a Franco Manca on Regent Street for frigging ages, and everyone’s been talking about it and telling me it’s absolutely wonderful and that I must go for that exact amount of time, and I still hadn’t. Oops. However, thanks to their brand new opening at the marina, I’ve finally been to see what all the fuss is about. Franco Manca have an ethos we can all more than easily get on board with. They’ve got a heavy focus on simple food, locally sourced ingredients and affordability. There are just six pizzas on the menu – plus two specials on the board, one meat and one vegetarian – each of them uncomplicated and very reasonably priced. You won’t pay more than £8 for a pizza unless you add a load of extra toppings, and for the quality of ingredients you’re getting, that’s a bargain. All their pizzas are made with slow-rising sourdough and baked in a wood fired oven right before your very eyes (the open kitchen is visible from every seat in the house). The …

Happy (Easter) Sunday

It’s one of those rare Sundays that isn’t going to be followed closely by the dreaded return to work that Monday usually brings. For most of us, that is – my apologies to those who do have to get up in the morning, and even those who are at work today. Right now, I’m kicking back on my Nan’s sofa having just cooked and eaten a pretty great roast dinner. My only solid plans are writing the post you’re reading right now and eventually leaving this house and going in search of a Tom. I’ll probably eat some chocolate eggs at some point, too (which, to set some kind of bizarre personal record, I’m yet to do). I had my sights set on cooking lamb this year, but with a point blank refusal from Mum I went for chicken – and after seeing some of those babies frolicking around on the downs yesterday, I’m quite glad of that compromise. Nan cooked the chicken for me yesterday, which was a delightful surprise that led me to get …

Happy Sunday

I am so poorly. I haven’t been this ill in months and months and months. I didn’t leave the house this whole weekend apart from to go food shopping yesterday morning. I haven’t even been to the cinema, I’m that lurgy-ish. Thankfully, I have a Thomas, who has stayed in with me all weekend feeding me Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and watching Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares and playing me at Harry Potter Trivial Pursuit even though he knows I’ll win by miles. As I write this, he’s gone all the way over to the other side of town to buy me some peach juice because it’s my favourite. I’m feeling very fortunate despite my bad luck in contracting whatever this virus is. Just because I’ve been sofa-ridden this weekend does not mean I don’t have things to show you from this week. We’ve plenty to talk about, as always. Starting with a treat we discovered at The Real Patisserie on Wednesday. We stopped by their Kemptown shop to pick up something for breakfast and found fougasse. A …
