Spaghetti with Purple Sprouting Broccoli, Feta and Pine Nuts

I have once again allowed months to pass without giving anything I’ve cooked its rightful immortal home on my actual blog. In my defence, I’ve moved house and had probably at least two quarter life crises in the time since I was last here. I’m now fully settled in a little caravan in the Kentish countryside and therefore hope I might find myself back into the swing of properly transcribing anything I knock up that might be of use to you, on an at least semi-regular basis. If I continue to fall short, remember you can always find me on the social media profiles linked at the bottom of this post. This recipe is one I’ve made three or four times over the last month or so, and eaten on my front step in the evening sunshine (or, more often, at my kitchen table staring out at the rain). It’s very quick, nice and substantial and just tastes good. I’d not usually try and police the quality of a particular ingredient you use, but I …

The Allotment: May Edition

The year is sneaking by very quickly and we’re creeping slowly but surely towards the best time of year for those of us lucky enough to have a few square metres of space to grow our own food. The Summer gluts will soon be upon us ready to be pickled or frozen to bring nibbles of joy throughout the Winter. But, before I get ahead of myself with excitement for whats to come, I have to give due credit to one of the best things to ever emerge from the ground. Rhubarb. If you’re just starting out and looking for something to grow, rhubarb is your new best friend, even if pretty much neglected, it’ll do just fine. Thompson & Morgan are far more knowledgable than I on these things and have some great tips.               My favourite thing to do with rhubarb is simply to stew it. Stewed rhubarb can be added to …

Save-me-from-Domino’s Stir Fry

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’ll know that yesterday I travelled all the way from North Devon back to Brighton, if that’s not a familiar sounding journey to you I’ll simplify it by saying it’s hours and hours and hours of driving. And if you’re a regular person, you’ll know that coming home after being on the road for hours and hours and hours of driving makes it extremely difficult to resist the urge to hunt online for Dominos codes that will get you carbs as far as the eye can see for around £20. Being the born-again healthy cook that I am, I soldiered on and rustled up this stir fry. The key to surviving the struggle of not logging on to just-eat or calling your favourite Chinese is always having something in the cupboard that can be transformed in to a quick dinner. Luckily, I was armed with Amoy Ribbon Rice Noodles and Mum’s allotment purple sprouting broccoli. So with little more than a flash in a pan, I had dinner ready …
