The Slow Carb Diet Breakfast

Since adopting the slow carb diet I’ve been eating much bigger breakfasts than I usually would, this sounds great in theory but in practise it’s taken a lot of getting used to. My go-to breakfast up until very recently has been something healthy and simple like avocado on toast, which takes all of two minutes to prepare and keeps me going until lunch time. Despite being a solid breakfast choice (in my opinion), it breaks two slow carb rules (no bread, eat at least 30g of protein within 30 minutes of waking up) so for now it’s out the window. It’s now been replaced with the protein-packed slow carb diet friendly breakfast recipe below. I’ve had to change up my routine (by which I mean stop pressing ‘snooze’ and get out of bed in time to cook) and my appetite is still adjusting to eating this much so soon after waking up, but it keeps me more than satisfied until the clock strikes lunch and it’s contributing to the weight loss that comes with this diet. …

Tangy Red Cabbage

The slow carb diet (which I’m currently following, read up here if you didn’t know) recommends repeating meals a fair bit. I haven’t read the science bit behind this yet, although I plan to, but I trust Tim Ferriss so that’s what I’ve been doing. But repeating meals kind of sucks unless you’ve got some kickass dinner components to come home to every night. While I was planning my meals this weekend I thought about the red cabbage recipe my Grandmother used to make that I always adored. So I dropped her a text to ask for the recipe, and she said it was in the Hamlyn All Colour Cookbook. It’s about as vintage as vintage gets, check out Mary Berry looking all young and composed in the picture of  the inside cover to the left. The original recipe contains apple and sugar, both of which are no-nos for slow carbers. It also calls for bacon, which is a yes as far as the diet is concerned but I didn’t much fancy that combo. So …

The Slow Carb Diet: Here Goes!

Recently, my best friends in the blogging world (The Chilli Geeks) sent me their favourite book, The 4 Hour Chef by Timothy Ferriss. I read it, I loved it, and I couldn’t wait to dive deeper into the wonderful world of Ferriss – so I was pretty psyched when a friend at work lent me his copy of The 4 Hour Body. I’d mentioned I wanted to read it because in 4HC, Tim Ferriss’s diet invention, “slow carbing”, is referenced several times but not fully divulged. In 4HB there are two whole chapters on it, so last week I read them as fast as my little eyes could muster and decidedly pledged allegiance to the slow carb diet. Why I’m slow carbing Eating well is my goal and has been for some time, but binge eating has always been my biggest vice. I take midnight snacking to a whole new level, which is why I’m not quite in the healthy weight zone. The slow carb diet allows you to give in to your bingeing instinct once …
